H2 Firefighter and Rescue Professional James Draper talks about "Being on the job." Morning meeting with the Team, We ride with Rescue 2 to a school where the demonstrate is what to do when the Fire Emergency Bell goes off. Then, a medical and later in the afternoon, a small structure fire. Morning at Station 7, the Division of Training. First off, the morning meeting with the Chiefs, Fred and crews pay close attentions. The Chiefs have a location to train, the entire Battalion arrives for this huge opportunity to train at an abandoned Hospital very soon to be demolished to make way for a new one. Division Chief Cardinal and the Battalion Chiefs come up with a plan for a major evolution, all hands on deck.
The 2nd half of this 48 with Eng. 3's "A" Shift. Firefighter Silva is on a strict diet and a full regiment of exercises; he takes advantage of whatever time he has in between the large volume of calls at Station 3. A call comes in for an additional engine needed at a fire out in the west side of town. There's no hydrants out here. They are called off and head back to the station. On the way, they drive through one of Fresno's many homeless camps. They have overtaken the Downtown Fresno Area and it has become a very dangerous place full of drugs, prostitution and people that prey on others. A call comes in and they are out the door...and so much more.
B.C. Serrano at Division- a call comes in, it's a structure fire, we arrive on scene- it's an auto on fire in the open carport under an apartment building, this can be very dangerous in any city, the battalion is on scene. Back at the station, then, Rescue 2 responds to a call. Back at the station we experience one of the huge dangers at fire stations across america; but this is changing. Fuel Pumps close enough that all the fumes rise through the building, a building where men and women sleep upstairs; you all know what's happening here.
The night ends with a structure fire started by an electrical problem created by a contractor doing an re-model. All engine companies must test their hose lines periodically, and today is that day for the "A" Shift. Late afternoon, a hot-water heater fire in a garage destroysa young girl's birthday, and then late night, a call comes in for a commercial fire at an office complex. This is where we first meet Captain Oney Durney, who is nearing retirement and a is true Fireman's Fireman; he's always training.
Station 7, Division in the heart of the Mission District of San Francisco, prominently Latino, but becoming more of the hipsters everyday. Eng. 7 is out the door to a medical call at the trolley terminal, later in the night, a call comes in from the smell of smoke coming from a garage, the Battalion arrived on-scene, did we mentioned, in San Francisco food on the stove can burn an entire block.

At Station 9 we continue this night with smoke showing at a school we ride with Battalion Chief Sorrano, next up, we ride with the crew from Engine 9 to a vehicle accident on the 101, The next morning, we are back at Station 11 riding with Truck 11, an alarm has gone off at at school. Next up, it's a call with the crew on the engine and these are the Medical EMS Calls that can kill a first responder. Its now madatory to wear gloves, but it should be MANADATORY TO WEAR GOGGLES as we see why, the Pathogens that can kill a 1st Responder.
A call comes in for a structure fire at a park, the Mini-Pumper is dispatched with only two firefighters. Upon arriving on scene, it's a huge vegetation fire. With limited water supply, they have to disconnect the line, fill the tank, and return to the fire and hook back up, This is done several times and the danger is a large tree on fire that can fall on a building on the property. The fire is out, now, the task of downing the tree, not that easy...
