B.C. Serrano heads to fire, one of the dangers at the station, fuel pumps.

B.C. Serrano at Division- a call comes in, it's a structure fire, we arrive on scene- it's an auto on fire in the open carport under an apartment building, this can be very dangerous in any city, the battalion is on scene. Back at the station, then, Rescue 2 responds to a call. Back at the station we experience one of the huge dangers at fire stations across america; but this is changing. Fuel Pumps close enough that all the fumes rise through the building, a building where men and women sleep upstairs; you all know what's happening here.

Crissy Field, a windsurfer needs to be rescued. 7 minute response time for Rescue 2 to scene. They arrive on scene and jump into action.

Columbus Division of Fire - 3
Rescue Tools, a car fire, man down.

This 24/7 starts with roll-call at Station 17, this roll-call includes Deputy Chief Whiting, now the Assistant Chief. The Columbus Fire Department maintains the hydrants so seasonally, twice a year, they all must be tested, maintained or reported for service. Next, a tour of the Rescue rig with one of the technicians, he shows us the tools they use. Next, we ride on Engine 17 to a vehicle fire, it's blazing, then, a man down on a bike, then they catch another call, busy station.

Calaveras River Rescue / Incident Command at Lake Fire

The Calaveras Consolidated Fire District  is located in the foot hills of the Serra Mountains in Northern California where there are many lakes and streams in the 1st due area of this department. The Chief is young and progressive. He came in and sold off the older rigs and equipment to make his department lean and mean. Left with an older Pierce engine, he took some of the funds and just ordered a new Pierce soon to be delivered. You may have seen the shot of him in a meeting with the rep.

The crew of Truck 11 out of Station #11 start their 48 with one of the members from the crew getting their "Fit Test" for their SCBA Mask, then, it's time for shopping. An added protein to tonights dinner, Rattle Snake, night falls, a call come in for a vehicle accident, it's the next call where the "jaw of life" are needed to extricate police officers from their cruiser.

Night, a call comes in, it's a structure fire, smoke showing.

Night, after a long day, a call comes in, it's a structure fire, smoke showing, Engine 33 and Twoer 33 respond. The Deputy Chief is driving the engine, he stops at the hydrant, the Tower drives by and lands in the driveway of the structure. The pull lines, the enter the front door of the home, outside, they start to ventalite, the door is opened and we are inside the garage. After enough water has been used, the thermal imager camera is brought in to make sure that evey ember is out. Back at the station

Fire in the basement

First call, Engine 27 crew responds to a "Smoke Showing" call, they arrive on scene to a fire in a basement, creosote is the cause. Next, they arrive on-scene to an auto accident. Later in the day, a call comes in, Squad 27, also a pumper/engine, heads out the door, the arrive on-scene; it's a structure fire in a negihboring township. The crew drag a line to a window, it's another basement fire. Lot's of basement fires in New Jersey.

Day, Truck "4" crew trains, water rescue, shops for chow and then a structure fire

Station 4 "C" Shift. The four man crew staffs the Tower Ladder Truck, The USAR Rig that is also used for Water Rescue; they wish they could be a combination station again. This 48 starts out with a the team going over the equipment necessary for finding victims of an earthquake that may be stuck under the rubble. Time to go shopping for chow for the next 48 hours and, back at the station, they cook their lunch. As busy as this station is, they still find time to exercise. A call comes in – its a big roll of something in the water canal, possibly a wrapped body.

Vegetation Fire- Mini Pumper

A call comes in for a structure fire at a park, the Mini-Pumper is dispatched with only two firefighters. Upon arriving on scene, it's a huge vegetation fire. With limited water supply, they have to disconnect the line, fill the tank, and return to the fire and hook back up, This is done several times and the danger is a large tree on fire that can fall on a building on the property. The fire is out, now, the task of downing the tree, not that easy...
